I am bored in a strange city (David is playing pool down the street) so I figured I would write a book review. I’ve mentioned before, that I get free books from Thomas Nelson, for posting reviews on my blog. I’ve been done with this particular book for a long time, I’ve just put off writing about it. I had initially requested a different book, but due to a delay, was able to request another book while I waited. I picked “Beautiful Mess: The Story of Diamond Rio”. I’m not sure why I picked it, I’m not a fan of Diamond Rio….in fact, I’ve never heard any of their songs. I like biographies (I’m a nerd) so I figured I would give it a try. For the most part, I enjoyed it. The guys were very forthcoming with their personal experiences and with their shortcomings. They overcame a lot of obstacles to “make it” and that was encouraging to see. At times, I found some of the information tedious, but I think this is mainly because I really was not familiar with the band (or their music) before reading the book. I would imagine that true fans of the band would enjoy this book even more than I did. I love reading about real people and their experiences….it’s fascinating.

The bottom line is: I wouldn’t read it again, but I would recommend it to fans of Diamond Rio….it really does offer a lot of information about the band members and their pasts.

Thursday Survey

In lieu of a regular post, here is a fascinating survey. 🙂

1. What is your favorite thing to snack on while blogging?

I don’t really eat while I blog….HOWEVER, coffee is always good! Today I discovered The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, and I must say….it’s my new favorite.

2. What is one thing you wouldn’t want to live without?

Well, it said THING, so not counting people….music….or books.

3. Beach, mountains or farm? Where would you live if you had a choice?

That’s really hard….I think if I could pick one, I would say the beach….I love water and sunshine.

4. What’s your least favorite chore / household duty?

Cleaning the bathroom.

5. Who do people say you remind them of?

Some people say I remind them or my mom….some say my dad. I don’t see either, to be honest.

6. Prefer parties and socializing or staying home with the family?

I would much rather stay in with David and King. 🙂

7. What’s your all time favorite movie?

The Anne of Green Gables Movies….I have the third one, but I still need the first two.

8. Do you sleep in your make-up or remove it like a good little girl every night?

Honestly, I usually forget to take it off…not good, I know.

9. Do you have a hidden talent or a deep desire to learn something that you’ve never had a chance to learn? What is it?

I don’t know about hidden talents, but I’ve always wanted to learn photography….I love taking pictures so it seems logical. Lol. When I was little I always wanted to play the Violin….now I would just like to continue piano lessons (I took lessons when I was younger, and I’m so mad at myself for quitting!).

I don’t know how strange it is, but I’m good at taking care of people. I love being nurturing.

11. What first attracted you to your spouse?

I don’t have a spouse, but I do have a boyfriend. I was initially attracted to his looks (he’s adorable, what can I say) but his personality is ultimately what did it for me….plus he is super smart.

Anne and Gilbert from Anne of Green Gables.

20. Would you want to be famous?

Not particularly. It’s not something I’m striving to be, let’s put it that way.

Random Adventure

I am in San Francisco. It was somewhat of an unexpected trip. David went to meet with one of his friends on Friday night….a few hours later he texted me that we were going to leave for San Francisco the next day. I was pretty shocked….but excited too. I hadn’t left the state in far too long.

After staying the night at a hotel in Seattle on Friday night, we were off to California. I actually drove most of the way, believe it or not. I didn’t mind it at all. Something that made the trip a little more eventful was that we brought King (David’s cat) along. He was totally fine, all curled up in the backseat on top of all of our luggage. He LOVES riding in the car (an unusual cat, yes) and was asleep most of the time. We had a little litter box in the front seat, that he was very good about using….he never went anywhere he wasn’t supposed to. The problem occurred when he went to jump OUT of the litter box….he stepped in his poop, thereby flinging it all over the car. Yes, the shit was flying….quite literally. It was hilarious….not so much at the time….but certainly now.

Oregon is a really annoying state to drive through. I would be driving along at 65 miles per hour (the posted speed limit) and then for no apparant reason, the speed limit would decrease to 50 miles per hour…sometimes even 45. It went back and forth the whole way down I-5. It was extremely annoying. I would get up to speed, and then have to slow down again. We came to the conclusion that Oregon treats their drivers like they’re idiots….I mean, they aren’t even trusted to pump their own gas, which I’m sorry, is still weird to me.

I have no idea where my cell phone is and that is causing me some distress. I feel completely lost without it. I am convinced I left it at my mom’s house before we left….my mom hasn’t seen it though. I’m sad. I loved that phone. I don’t like being cell phone-less in a strange city.

I found the best Ross store EVER….well, at least the best one that I have ever been to. It is five stories and has the best selection I’ve ever seen. TONS of shoes, purses, and cute coats. As a result it was probably also the BUSIEST Ross I have ever been to. I scored some really cute shoes for $12.99, so I was happy. I then went across the street to Old Navy and got a sweater for 8 bucks. Yes, I am a big spender. Downtown San Francisco is like a shopper’s paradise. Most of the stores are way too expensive for me to ever even think of entering, but it’s fun all the same. There is a huge H&M as well, which of course made me happy.

That was an extremely random post. More later.

In lieu of a regular post, I bring you a totally random post. A list of 23 things (since it is the 23rd….creative, I know.)

1. I tried a pumpkin scone from Starbucks the other day. It changed my life. Okay, I might be being a LITTLE bit dramatic, but it was very, very good. I got one for David and then had a few bites of it. I love pumpkin stuff….I’m thinking I need to try a Pumpkin Spice Latte at some point this year. I’ve never had one, somehow. I have a tendency to get stuck in ruts when it comes to my Starbucks drinks.

2. I watched “The Stepfather” last night. I wanted to watch a scary movie and my boyfriend so sweetly took me. It was good….not too bloody and gross. We went to the Cinnebarre in Mountlake Terrace and we were literally the only ones in the theater.

3. Todo Mexico (on 1st Street in Snohomish) is my new favorite Mexican restaurant. For the past six months, David had been telling me how good it was. He finally took me, I think it was last week….I absolutely loved it! Excellent food….AND it’s right on the Snohomish River, so there’s a really pretty view.

4. I think I could easily become addicted to Amazon.com.  I always have a book or a movie I want to get….and they have pretty much everything you could possibly think of. I have a wishlist on there, so feel free to purchase me something! I’m TOTALLY kidding. It’s mostly for me, so I can keep track of the different things I would like to own. There are a lot of old movies on there right now. That reminds me, I need to add the Wizard of Oz.

5. I currently hate all my clothes…well, MOST of my clothes. I rarely buy new clothes, and I’ve bought even less lately (being that I am unemployed and all….). I really need a few new things to give me more options and to update my wardrobe. I have a lot of good basics, I just need a few things to update it all a little bit. Maybe someday….

6. Shoes. I am in desperate need of SHOES. Now that it is raining all the time and cold out, I really don’t have very many shoes suitable for the weather. I need to change that soon, I think.

7. I have found lately that I love sandwiches. I think it all depends on the brand of bread.

8. I forgot how much I love “The Office”. I will start watching it regularly again. I also love watching it on dvd….a bunch of episodes in a row….what could be better?!

9. I want to go to a corn maze. It’s been a few years, since I’ve gone to one. There is a farm in Snohomish that has the “field of screams” at night. I SO want to go! That’s where I went a few years ago, and it was so much fun. Now if only there could be a night where it’s not raining….

10. I’m already excited for the holidays. I realize it isn’t even Halloween yet, but I am excited anyway.

11. I’m not super into Halloween. I hate dressing up, and usually don’t do anything special for Halloween. I like going to pumpkin farms and such, but that’s about the extent of my festivities.

12. I think it’s hilarious when everyone on Facebook gets all riled up about every single new feature or change. Do they realize that they do this every single time? They all freak out and then get used to it. Facebook isn’t going to stop coming up with new things….that’s how they stay relevant. Technology is always changing, they have to keep up. It’s just so silly. People don’t like the new “live feed”. I don’t know what the big deal is….all you have to do is click on “news feed”, and you can go back to the old one. PLUS, it’s not that different to begin with so, who cares!

13. I love reading blogs. It’s a bit of an addiction, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s not a bad addiction to have.

14. I hate it when people are racist….when people judge my boyfriend because of how he looks. The funny thing is, their assumptions couldn’t be more wrong. He’s extremely successful and probably has more money than the people who are judging him. People should learn not to judge by appearances. (Dr. Phil was about racism today.)

15. I am longing for a new digital camera. Mine wasn’t the nicest when it was new….now it’s a couple years old and not working so well. I love taking pictures, so it seems like I should have a halfway decent one (since I DO use it ALL the time). I would love a Sony or a Nikon, I think.

16. I would love to be a professional photographer.

17. I need a haircut. I don’t remember the last time I got one….I know it was over six months ago. Appalling, I know. I want to get it trimmed up and get some more layers in it.

18. I am tired of my blog layout, but there aren’t any options available that I like better.

19. I love getting back in touch with old friends (see my last entry).

20. I miss having a place of my own….where I don’t have to share a room with my sister, and where I can actually put my clothes away in a closet and/or dresser. That would be why I am hardly ever home other than to sleep.

21. I had a flashback to my high school days today. I saw the Backstreet Boys singing together on tv. They were singing “I Want it That Way”. I was never a huge fan, but it definitely took me back, because I certainly remember their songs.

22. I am still thinking about one of the purses I saw on Etsy.

23. My hormones have been all over the place this week. Because of this, I have felt out of sorts, been easily irritated, and I’ve felt ugly….hopefully I’m not the only one this happens to. Lol.

That was a lot harder than I thought it would be….apparently I’m not very interesting. Oh well, at least it’s friday!

I had such a fun day. I got to visit with two old friends today. I have known Janelle literally since we were babies in the nursery together at church. Amber is Janelle’s cousin (which I seriously never even knew before today!), and she also went to church with us back when we were young-that’s how I met her. I literally hadn’t seen Amber since we were probably ten years old. I’ve seen Janelle over the years, but at times we’ve gone a few years without seeing each other.

The three of us have been trying to get together for awhile now and we finally got it to work with everyone’s schedules. SO this morning, I set off in the direction of Stanwood. Now, if you know anything about me, you know that I can be prone to getting lost really easily. I hadn’t gotten lost lately, because I am usually in areas that I know relatively well….if I get lost in those areas, I can kind of trouble shoot and figure out how to get where I’m trying to go. Well….I’m not familiar with the Stanwood area….really at ALL. Off the freeway, I turned right instead of left and then drove at LEAST 20 minutes in the complete wrong direction. Eventually the road ended and I knew I was lost. I called Janelle and she guided me to her house….needless to say I was quite late. The plus side is, it’s now ingrained in my head and I’ll always know how to get there! Lol.

I was so excited to see Janelle’s house finally, and of course to see her adorable little boy again. She made yummy coffee cake and even made coffee in her fancy coffee maker. Sidenote: I LOVED her kitchen….in fact, I told David that it’s my favorite kitchen I’ve seen in person….besides being really nice, there was just something about it that I really loved. Anyway, we had so much fun just chatting and catching up. Amber had to leave to pick up her son from school so we didn’t get to chat with her as long (and of course me taking FORever to get there, cut down on the time I had to chat with her). We all agreed that we need to get together for a visit once or twice a month. I think the three of us could probably sit and talk for hours and not get bored. Lol. But seriously, I think our personalities are similar. There’s something special about old friends. New friends are awesome too, don’t get me wrong (I have some “new” friends that are absolutely great), but you can’t duplicate history. Facebook is definitely good for getting back in touch with people. I’m realizing the importance of having GOOD friendships….people you can count on and relate to. I think the older I have gotten, the more I’ve realized the importance of not taking good friendships for granted….when you find a good friend, hang on to them! 🙂 Good friends aren’t always easy to find.

A total sidenote, but I’m so excited that so many of my friends have kids now. You’d think it would be the opposite, but I love it. I adore kids, so I get my kid fix without having to actually have kids of my own! It’s awesome! I was just thinking about that today. PLUS, when I DO finally get married and have kids, I’ll have friends to give me lots of good advice. 🙂 Okay, sidenote over.

After a long chat with Janelle, I started (attempting!) to head south. Yeah, you know where this is going….I got slightly lost again. I took another wrong turn and ended up in downtown Stanwood. What a cute little town though! At least this time, I had a better idea of where I was. When I was just north of Marysville, I got pulled over by a state trooper. I was confused as I was pulling over about what I did wrong. I knew I wasn’t speeding, the registration wasn’t expired, and I wasn’t on my cell phone. When I rolled down the window he said, “I may be wrong, but it looked like you didn’t have your seatbelt on.” He could obviously see that I did, so he apologized and I was on my way. I hate getting pulled over! I knew I didn’t do anything, and I still hated it! Yes, I had quite the adventures on the road today! Very eventful.

I came to a conclusion today….I need GPS….or at least a cell phone with a GPS application. I sort of think it’s a must have for me!

Now, I am spending the evening with my favorite guy….David, of COURSE. 🙂 (I’m sure no one saw that one coming.)

Good day.

I Discovered Etsy

Oh. My. Word. I just spent over an hour on Etsy….easy to do, let me tell you! I have read about Etsy on various blogs that I read on a regular basis and David even told me about it, but somehow I never quite made it to the website to check it out. It’s awesome! I love having unique things that everyone doesn’t have….I’ve always been like that. I thought I would share some things I wouldn’t mind having….I’ll try to not get carried away.

First of all, I absolutely ADORE this jacket. I have a weakness for jackets as it is….I feel like you can never have too many.

Going along with the jacket theme….how fun is this one?! I don’t have anything like it, and I think it’s adorable.

My other weakness is purses and bags. I’m bored of my laptop bag….it’s big and bulky….and way too “briefcase-ish”. I found this super cute bag that is big enough for a laptop.

il_430xN.95079140I also LOVE this messenger bag. I still have the one I had in high school, and let’s just say it has seen better days (and has a broken zipper). This would be a nice replacement, I think.

I LOVE yellow and I’ve been wanting a yellow purse (since I can’t WEAR yellow, due to my coloring). I absolutely love this purse.

I love this train case. I don’t travel a lot (or really, ever) but I would still love it.

I love bubble baths. I found “Bubble Bath Dough” and I simply must have it….I mean how fun does that sound?! They even have an orange sherbet flavor….my favorite!

My boyfriend is an avid pool player (seriously….he’s REALLY good) and I even found a fun little gift that I will have to buy him sometime….maybe when he gets a new place. So fun! I think they are a “must have” for his fridge.

il_430xN.97098322I have a problem….I have almost NO jewelry. I wish I had some pretty fun jewelry to wear, but I really don’t have much. What I DO have is cheap stuff, mostly from Wal-Mart or Target. I would love to have some halfway decent stuff. I like necklaces and earrings and an occasional ring….I’m not much of a bracelet or watch person. I found these pretty earrings.il_430xN.97045633

Okay, I think that’s enough of my wishlist for now! Check out Etsy if you haven’t yet! So much fun.
